Handyman invoice template

Handyman work is usually many small jobs in one visit. The invoice should read like a to-do list with prices: the customer ticks each job off in their head, and pays.

How handymen price small jobs

MethodHow it works
Minimum chargeA set fee for any visit, often covering the first hour
Per taskA fixed price for each job, e.g. "Mount TV on wall"
HourlyTime on site × rate, for jobs that are hard to predict
Trip chargeA small fee for travel, if you work far from home

One line per job

"Odd jobs — 4 hours" makes customers wonder what took so long. A list such as "Hang 3 frames and 1 mirror", "Fix sticking bedroom door" and "Assemble wardrobe" shows the value of the visit. Write each job so the customer can recognise it.

Know when to call a specialist

In many places, larger jobs and anything beyond minor electrical, plumbing or gas work need a licensed tradesperson. If you recommended a specialist instead of doing a job, note it on the invoice. It shows you were honest about the limits of the work.

Common questions

Should a handyman charge by the hour or by the job?

Per-job prices are easier for customers to accept and reward you for working fast. Hourly rates suit jobs where you cannot see the problem until you start. Many handymen quote per job and fall back to hourly for repairs.

Is a minimum charge fair?

Yes, it is normal. Travel and setup take time even for a five-minute job. Say what the minimum includes, for example the first hour of work.

Should I give customers receipts for materials?

Offer them, especially for larger purchases. Customers trust a materials line much more when they know they can see the receipt.

What payment methods should I list?

Write every method you accept, such as bank transfer, card or cash, and the details for each, in the notes. The easier it is to pay, the faster you get paid.
